It's official in the most recent edition of PC Gamer magazine EA LA has announced their, until now, secret progress on the next installment of Command and Conquer, tenatively named Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

The four page spread goes into pretty thorough detail about the universe, GDI and NOD with the addition of a new secret side. The backdrop, set in the future, the world is now partitioned into three sections: The Red, Yellow and Green zones. The Red zones are not inhabitable by humans and completely devestated by war and Tiberium poisoning, while the Yellow zones are NOD territory heavily contaminated with tiberium and Green zones are clean safe havens controlled by the benevolent GDI.

The article comes complete with five incredible in-game screen shots and four computer generated images of vehicles and cut scenes. The vehicle information is sparse but there is plenty of information on the sleek yet heavily armored new mammoth tank, there is also mention of some powerful mech units. In a few of the screens mammoth tanks are seen exiting from tunnels that appear to provide good cover and hiding for armored vehciles and infantry.

The focus is now on faster and crisper game play, the engine is the same sage engine (tweaked for better performance) used in creating the glorious universe for Battle for Middle earth II. The developers talk about improving online play with some really cool additions and there is even mention of official clan support and continued plans for bigger community events scheduled at the EA LA office.

The article is loaded with information. If you get a chance run out and grab yourself a copy.
