The inhospitableness of our cities
Alexander Mitscherlich already deplored the inhospitableness of our cities in the middle of the 60's. The sociologist of Frankfurt explicitly articulated a deep identity crisis of the architecture. He criticized the master builders, which just had most adapted cities as possible in mind, but gave little consideration to the needs of the inhabitants. At the same time the scientists of the Club of Rome warned of the irrespective handling of Energy. The architects found two totally different answers for the double conflicting crisis .On the one hand they went back into the past and created the postmodernism.Simultaneously on the other hand they ventured themselves far forward into the future and started to build ecologically. The postmodernism with its columns and arcs exploited the fundus of the occidental style unrestraint. Despite of successful examples the postmodernism remained at the surface, and is actually endangered of fizzling out by getting out of fashion. The ecological architecture however doesn´t just deal with the shell of a building, but proceeds holistic/unmitigated.
